Welcome!

My name is Marisol and I'm a fifth-year doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami. I completed my undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in 2018, where I graduated with honors for bachelor’s degrees in psychology and anthropology.

 

During my time as a doctoral student, I have been a proud member of the Challenging Racism and Empowering Communities through Ethnocultural Research (CRECER) lab in which I conduct research related to community-based, culturally responsive mental health interventions. This research specifically focuses on how unique community strengths and evidence-informed/evidence-based practice can be coalesced and leveraged to promote psychological wellness.

 

I have coordinated and co-designed interventions and curricula addressing community-selected topics such as trauma-informed mental health support, emotion socialization, and ethnic racial identity development. These programs have reached community-leaders, teachers, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and youth. My experience engaging with community needs through research and intervention has given me experience in program manualization and adaptation.

 

Relatedly, my clinical work has focused on the implementation of culturally responsive, empirically-based intervention with ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse clients in community-based mental health centers, academic health centers, and forensic settings.

 

Essentially, I am passionate about doing research and clinical work that identify how people can use internal and external resources to make their lives, their family's lives, and the lives of the people in their community the best it can be.

What I'm up to...

 

 

 

Currently, I am working closely with community partners to implement a culturally responsive mental health intervention program for youth called “Fireside Mental Health Chats.” For more information on this project, please visit https://firesidementalhealthchats.com 

I am also proudly working in the Community & Educational Well-Being Research Center (CEW-RC) to develop a social and emotional learning program for local teachers. 

Additionally, I am excited to be working with the THINK Program, a holistic wellness program aiming to bolster the physical and emotional health of middle school aged youth while also improving their STEM skills.

 

 

 

I am delighted to be training at the Mailman Center for Child Development where I am developing clinical skills within the School Health and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) rotations.
